Do you have an old kitchen you want to upgrade to a luxurious space? What about a living room, an on-suite bathroom or even an entire home that needs a revamp? Maybe you’ve been saving up for a renovation or you’ve retired and finally have time to take on a home project. Or you’re planning for your first luxurious property. Whatever the reason, in this blog post we’ll share some tips with you from our experience in building custom homes in Perth.
Work with professionals who understand your vision
The people you contract to do the renovation needs to be on board with your vision and understand exactly what you are looking for. With any luxury build, details matter! It’s best to work with an interior designer who has experience with luxury design and can fully articulate the look and feel you want to achieve.
Its’ equally important to have a builder by your side that fully understands the luxury building process, has experience in custom home building and can guide you through the every step. The builder will help you to set up a realistic cost expectation and understand whether your vision can be built within the specifications provided.
Having these professionals in your corner will ensure any renovation is a smooth process. If not, it can be a nightmare and high-stress event – not something that goes hand in hand with the idea of luxury renovation.
Design, functionality and materials

Your interior designer and builder will work hand in hand to help you create the perfect design and execution of the project. Yet, you’ll always have to keep in mind the overall look or design you are trying to achieve. Is the design functional, fitting into your lifestyle, and will the materials work for your household?
Open plan living with high ceilings, large open spaces, oversized windows are often used to achieve a luxurious feel. For materials, normally the most expensive ones are chosen for a luxury build. Afterall, you want to build something that will last and most of all are to the highest of quality standards. Yet, sometimes the second best option can provide the same look and feel and might even fit your home better.
Lighting is also a crucial element used to add ambience to areas within the room. Additionally high-tech options such as voice activated lighting, smart home systems, high end kitchen designs with all the latest gadgets can make a world of a difference.
Dressing rooms or empty spaces with art can further add a tone of luxury to a space which might normally be forgotten. Designers often at artwork near focal points such as the end of a staircase or even entrance area of a house.
The sky is the limit, it all depends on one thing really, and that is your budget. Can you achieve the look you want to achieve with the set budget, if not, what alternative options are there? Again, having the right team in your corner will help answer all these questions.
How does the renovation process work

Now that you have a better overall idea of luxury renovation, we’d like to briefly go over the renovation process we follow. This will help you understand what to expect. IQ Construction has done many renovations in the past. Generally, the process involves the following stages.
Stage 1: Design & Planning
We’ll visit your property and collaborate with you to create a design that suits your lifestyle, budget, and timeframe. You’ll get clear design concepts to help visualize the finished product. Once you’re happy, we’ll sign off on the preliminary plans and move forward to step 2.
Stage 2: Council Approval
With your design approved, we handle all the planning documents and submit them to your local council to secure any required approvals.
Stage 3: Construction Prep & Certification
After council approval, we coordinate with engineers and certifiers to finalize the necessary paperwork and construction certificates. Then, we present the HIA contracts for your final sign-off.
Stage 4: Demolition & Build
With permits secured, we prepare your home for construction and move onto the build phase.
Stage 5: Lock-Up Stage
The structure is now sealed—roof, windows, doors, and exterior cladding are complete. We then begin installing internal fixtures and finishes.
Stage 6: Handover
Once construction is complete and certifications are signed off.
